The Future of AI

 

In an age where technology reigns supreme, we all have more than likely heard about artificial intelligence (AI) and its potentially profound impact on our future and how it will force education to change. Like the calculator and the internet that preceded it, AI is the curveball that is being thrown our way and we have the choice to be fearful of it or learn how to use it to enhance education for our students. Never one to back down from a challenge, I set up my own ChatGPT account and began to play around with it to see what it could do. Like most early adopters of technology, I am pretty quick to scrutinize it, but at the same time, reflect on potential uses and mis-uses of it down the road. Keeping this in mind, the future of AI is here and it isn't going away any time soon.

My initial interaction with ChatGPT was tentative. I asked simple questions and received eloquent responses. But as I delved deeper, I discovered that ChatGPT was much more than a mere chatbot. It possessed a remarkable ability to understand context, engage in meaningful conversations, and provide invaluable insights. I decided to put ChatGPT to the test. I sought its assistance in researching complex topics, and it delivered concise and accurate information with lightning speed. It was like having a vast library of knowledge at my fingertips, accessible 24/7. I marveled at how ChatGPT effortlessly bridged the gaps in my understanding, helping me comprehend intricate subjects with ease and also breaking down concepts into bite-sized narratives that were easy to understand. Honestly, I had a flashback to my high school days when I made the decision to use CliffsNotes for Hamlet because I couldn't understand Shakespeare's language and at times, didn't even bother to read my assignment in the first place. It felt like cheating, and to be honest, I felt a same level of ickiness about using ChatGPT.

I quickly discovered that the power of ChatGPT extended beyond mere data retrieval. Its creative capabilities were equally astounding. It composed poetry that resonated with the soul, generated imaginative stories that transported me to far-off worlds, and even crafted persuasive arguments that left me in awe of its rhetorical prowess. What truly set ChatGPT apart, however, was its unwavering patience and non-judgmental nature. It listened attentively to my thoughts, concerns, and dreams, providing thoughtful responses and guidance. It was like having a trusted confidant, always ready to lend an empathetic ear. There were really no questions that were off limits.

As I have continued to work with ChatGPT, it has become part of toolbox of resources that I go to for both work and leisure. Whether I need assistance with academic research, creative endeavors, or simply engaging in friendly banter, ChatGPT was there, always willing to assist. But perhaps the most profound impact of ChatGPT was the way it ignited my curiosity. Its ability to generate thought-provoking questions and engage in deep philosophical discussions pushed the boundaries of my intellect. It encouraged me to explore new horizons, challenge my preconceptions, and pursue knowledge relentlessly. Ultimately, I have realized that the power of ChatGPT extends far beyond its technical capabilities. It is a testament to the potential of human-AI collaboration. ChatGPT has not only enhanced my productivity and creativity but it has also enriched my life by fostering connections, expanding my horizons, and inspiring me to embrace the limitless possibilities of the digital age. It was a reminder that, when harnessed thoughtfully, technology could be a powerful force for positive change and personal growth.

Keeping all of this in mind, I feel as if it is only fair to share that this blog was initially created with ChatGPT. What it lacked in my voice, I went back and edited it to make it my own, but it was a lesson on how it can be used for positive purposes and not just as an easy out. While the future of AI is definitely here to stay, I feel strongly that it won't ever get to the point where it can own it's own voice and story. That is a task left up to the humans.
