The F-Month

Dear February,

You have long been known to be the month of love since you are the keeper of Valentine's Day. You also hold the distinct privilege of being the only month that can add a day to the calendar every four years in the form of the Leap Year. Keeping this in mind, you are also the month that causes the greatest sense of anxiety and stress in the world of education and I am hoping that you can give my teachers a break.

You see, you are the month when everything seems to merge together and the already full plate that teachers have gets even fuller with the advent of building the master schedule for next year. While teachers are struggling to keep their heads above water, you are there to submerge them underwater yet again in the hopes that they will scream "UNCLE" and give up. Fortunately, you won't win this battle because teachers are resilient, hard working, and built to overcome any issue that you place in front of them. Because of this, I have affectionately referred to you as the F-Month.

I realize that you masquerade as the month of joy, love, and celebration, but to be honest, you are the epitome of anxiety and stress. I ask that you, for once, live up to your name sake and provide some love to all of the hard working teachers out there who work tirelessly to help our kids. I ask that you provide solace to the adults in schools who show up to work when it is dark, go home when it is dark, and sometimes feel like they are left out in the dark when it comes to the endless amount of "stuff" that keeps on coming their way. I know that you don't have any candy hearts that say "Thank You for Being a Teacher," but I ask that you care for them in the form of nice weather, friendly faces, and an understanding that they are doing the best that they can.

Being a teacher sucks sometimes and you just happen to be the month where this is heightened. It's not your fault, but you can totally redeem yourself. You can grant administrators the ability to be kind and understanding while your days pass by. I know you don't have any pull with March and Daylight Saving Time, but if you could put in a good word and see if that could come sooner it would be greatly appreciated.

Ultimately, I want you to know that you are a month that holds so much potential if you would just allow people to enjoy you for the short month that you are and grant people peace and serenity to make it through to Spring Break. I'd love to get back to speaking terms with you, but until then, I will continue to call you the F-Month for obvious reasons.

Sincerely,

The guy that wants to clip Cupid's wings.
