Hello May!!!

Gratitude is something that I value deeply. I am grateful to have a loving family, relatively good health, a job that continuously pushes me to learn and grow, and amazingly supportive colleagues who look after each other and lift each other up during difficult times. This was no more apparent than the last week of April when there were a number of high pressure, high stress, and emotional moments at school that really put a lot of people on edge. It was tough on everyone and we all went through a range of emotions. We came together though and it felt so good to wake up on Monday morning and say HELLO MAY!!!

The saying goes that, "April showers bring May flowers," and I am all in on this statement, especially when it comes to schools. Every year, without question, as soon as the anticipation of spring comes about, people go a little nuts. Some might attribute this to a full moon or Mercury being in retrograde, but I just think it is the life cycle of schools. People have been cooped up indoors for far too long and haven't gotten enough vitamin D that they sort of lose it when the weather gets nice and they know that the end of the school year is a few short weeks away. You might make the assumption that I am talking about the kids, but let's get real here and admit that it impacts adults just as much. We see the light at the end of the tunnel and the flexibility and grace that we showed throughout the year starts to wane a little and we begin to develop a pretty rough exterior. There is no tired like "teacher tired" and this is exacerbated all the way up to April until we can say HELLO MAY!!!

So here we are and it is a pretty good place to be. Here is hoping that May will bring forth a little gratitude and grace towards one another. It's been a long year, but we got to see kids grow. We had the opportunity to make an impact on someone. We got to struggle, fail forward, and come out on the other end smelling like a rose. May might not be the month that receives a lot of credit, but it may (see what I did there) be the most therapeutic of all the months because we know what is coming. We just have to wait a little bit longer. HELLO MAY!!!
